My First Ad
May 27th, 2008 by Elizabeth DoleThis week I am airing the first television commercial of my campaign for re-election to the United States Senate. You can see the ad here.
As the number of illegal aliens in North Carolina increased, I began to hear very troubling accounts from many constituents and law enforcement officials. Illegal aliens were committing crimes, often repeatedly, such as drunk driving and drug and gang related felonies that have harmed and even killed North Carolinians. I knew this was an aspect of the illegal immigration issue that needed to be tackled urgently. I also knew that our state’s law enforcement officials needed the tools to effectively send the message that North Carolina means business when it comes to the enforcement of our laws.
So I traveled throughout North Carolina from the mountains to the coast meeting with sheriffs to discuss what challenges they faced and how we might provide them with additional assistance in the form of tools to identify, apprehend and deport criminal illegal aliens. We agreed on an approach of a partnership between Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association. The result is the first and only statewide immigration enforcement plan of its kind in the country. This is the focus of my first commercial that will air across North Carolina.
Folks, it’s important to remember that campaigns are about choices between two individuals, and there will be a vigorous debate about my record of combating illegal immigration and that of my opponent, Kay Hagan. Mrs. Hagan has alternatively opposed, criticized and even called for aspects of my plan to be “replaced.” But here is the truth, North Carolina needed a clear way to deal with illegal aliens that are committing crimes against people and property. These criminals are not going to stop committing crimes while Washington works out its political differences. So I didn’t wait on Washington leadership – Democrat or Republican - and got to work to help find a solution for North Carolina – to help make our streets and communities safer. I think North Carolinians will appreciate that – even if Mrs. Hagan is evidently struggling with the issue.
It’s clear to me that just like the pro-amnesty crowd in Washington D.C., Mrs. Hagan just doesn’t get it when it comes to the enforcement of our immigration laws.
That’s why I need your continued support to help us defend our message in this campaign. My opponent has come out in opposition to my plan to identify, apprehend and deport illegal aliens who have committed crimes in North Carolina. This is a major difference between us. I know that I am on the right side of common sense and the good people of North Carolina on this issue, and we will defend my plan and win the debate on this issue.
Please enjoy a sneak peak of my first television advertisement and let me know what you think.
With heartfelt appreciation,

Elizabeth

Ms. Dole,
It is great to deport these repeat offenders. I dont think we should wait until they are repeat offenders to exercise this plan. But I have a few questions, What about the ones that are not criminals? What about their American born Children? How do you propose to fix that problem. They come to NC, Get A Drivers Lisence, Pay Taxes, Buy Homes and go to school. What is your plan for these illegal immigrants that want to be a part of the Ameican Life much the same way our ancestors did? And one last question, Once we deport the repeat offenders, How in the world are we going to keep them from returning? It is a much more complex problem than just Deporting them. These are the issues concerning immigration that are important to this republican voter.
Thank you for your time. I look forward to your reply and hope to shake your hand in the near future.

Apparently a vote for Hagan is the same as a vote for amnesty as in responding to questions regarding Senator Dole’s ad she stated ““It’s a patchwork system,” said Hagan. “We need comprehensive immigration reform in this country.” Just more code words for granting citizenship to the criminals who broke into this country illegally.

Why don’t you post the ad on your campaign’s youtube channel? You’re missing a lot of exposure in not doing so.

As a 4th generation “Anglo” Californian who lived in Venezuela as a child I applaud all your efforts in North Carolina! Continue with all your projects and do the best you can.
California is definately feeling all the effects of MASSIVE immigration and legal children of illegals. So many examples I cannot keep a short essay.
These people have to be assimilated in a way where the Hispanics do not pitt themselves against others and attempt to dominate, deny employment, take advantage, and be rude to others. This is a problem for the idea of majority rules when the Spanish majority (yes here) has no respect for other cultures. Education for all could help with this I believe.
Regarding the English vs Spanish issue. Well I think that one language taught to all helps communication. However, I do think a second language should also be taught to all. Unfortunately it is often hard to keep a second language going if it is not used regularly. Also I think it can be hard to learn a second language well. So I think that English should be the main language - why? many more reasons - but that it is also good for two languages with word for word translations to be on much paperwork. That way English speaking people can learn the second language of Spanish a little and vice versa. But two languages or more on paperwork should not be a reason for Spanish only except for the very old on American soil.
Other problems in California that I see. No one except the very sparce immigration service has been allowed to identity and return illegals that are trying for a better life and we are bad and inhumane if we do not (lower our standard of living etc to) make room for them so they can on occasion take advantage of us.
You are definately on the right track and working in a knowledgeable way that I admire. Education in ? working together is also needed and I think Hispanics teaching Hispanics to respect other cultures (civics?) is one way that works well.
