Patience, Larry: Oil is now less than $60 a barrel; OPEC is sweating; price at the pump is less than $3.@ gal. ($2.43 @ gal. in Colorado) the lowest in 16 mths. Is OPEC getting the message that we are serious about drilling for OUR OWN oil???? What is out of control is the Democrat run Congress. The ones who took a 5 week leave instead of discussing our energy crises; the ones who came up with a bill that limits drilling so much that it is just a SHAM; the ones who will support special interests groups that will (and some already have) hold up drilling in Court for years! Why? They don't want the other side to receive credit for anything. And they believe that everything can be run on solar, wind, nuclear, etc. energy and we don't need "dirty" fossil fuel. They should really think about that the next time they board a commercial passenger jet! And they should realize all of their mail, received and sent, travels via AIR. And they should think about all of the men who would be put out of work who help produce that "dirty" fuel! Senator Dole has not been responsible for the price of gas. Think again.

I'm about to change sides, Gas prices are all over the place. That tells me you are out of control. Maybe they can't do better but they also can't do much worse.

Thank you for all your public service that has reached us as far back as when you your dear husband were in KS. We were there in the early 80's when my husband was in the service. I wittnessed your combined kindness in that state and was very pleased to see you come to NC. We've lived here now 12 years. There doesn't seem to be much we can do with our little voice but when we see and hear the truth of what you stand for it is a great encourgement. "God" bless you both and your family. May the true Democratic value of being an American shine forth in us all. True-D

Dear Senator Dole,

I am worried about the upcomming election and the survival of the Republican Party in the southeast. I rarely watch local tv news because it is so biased, sometimes I would like to check the weather and watch with my nose pinched. While we were driving all over the mountain looking for gas the news was running stories of no gas, Asheville mayor contacting Rep Shuler. The commercial breaks were all about how its all your fault, you voted for billions of tax breaks to the Oil Companies. There were no Republican political ads. I feel like the Oil Companies are conspiring with Democrats to put pressure on Republican states to vote Democratic, by purposefully creating a shortage in our area. Here in the mountains gas was not available a week before other areas. I think the oil companies don't want Sarah Palin in the White House. If you could run rebuttal ads that point out that those "billions of dollars" were part of an energy bill that Obama voted for, and only 12 senators voted no on, maybe people in WNC would wake up and smell the coffee. I'm seeing way too many Obama stickers for my comfort. I'm afraid to put bumper stickers on my car they might smash my windows or key my paint job. Obama was in Asheville yesterday, the people are all mad at republicans, and buying in to his bologna. Do something pro active. Please.

The current bill passed by the House is a sham. We know that the Speaker is trying to pull a fast one on the voters. Any bill that restricts drilling to no closer than 50 miles is no bill at all. Please work to expose what Pelosi and Reid are trying to do on this issue.

Somewhere I read that Sen. Dole wanted drilling far enough off shore so Carolinians can't see the rigs. But the current Pelosi bill puts drilling 50 miles or more off shore, and the majority of OUR COASTAL OIL is less than 50 mi off shore, like 25 miles. And current drilling technology has improved so much so that risks of spills are minimal (there are more rusty, old, non-inspected foreign tankers causing spills). The Pelosi bill is a SHAM, and the Senate should not pass it! The day the President lifted the ban, the price per barrel of oil starting dropping. Gas is now about $3.65 per gal at the pump. Just the talk of developing our own oil will drop the price more. The rest of the world does know what is going on in U.S.A. And anyone who represents U.S. who makes it harder to drill our own oil, is giving support to those who we are buying from, currently.

Senator Dole is right in that we should have done this 20 years ago!!

Thanks for pushing for off shore drilling. One other thing. John McCain needs your support at the convention.

Dear Senator Dole,
Thank you for trying to encourage drilling for oil.

Please check the retail price of gasoline at the Energy Information Administration website at http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/oog/info/gdu/gaspump.html to see that the pump price of gasoline was under $2 per gallon until March 2005 and was under $3 per gallon until April 2007. As the Congressional prohibition to drill for oil became more strident, the price increased until its current high of $4.062 in July 2008.

In the month since President Bush lifted the Presidential ban to drilling, the crude price has come down from $145 to to $115. Imagine what would happen if Congress also lifted the ban.

North Carolina is in a prime position to capitalize on the leases and revenues that will be created when the ban is lifted.

Drilling off North Carolina beaches would be at least two horizons offshore and thus not visible from shore; would most likely be in the Gulfstream and thus any, very rare, spills would be carried further offshore and not a problem to the coastline; drilling rig and support infrastructure provide plentiful and high paying jobs that North Carolina men and women want.

Keep up the good work.

Great spot Senator Dole...I am very happy North Carolina has a great Senator like you. One thing I wish you would talk about or respond to is the ad that ranked you number 93 in the Senate. As I researched that report that ranked you that low, I discovered that Harry Reid and Ted Kennedy were number 1 and 2. Well if you are on the opposite side of the spectrum from them, then I am glad you are ranked 93, because at least you have always cared for the state.
